What is Incognito Mode
Incognito mode, also referred to as private browsing or privacy mode, constitutes a functionality present in most contemporary web browsers, granting users the ability to explore the internet without retaining specific details regarding their online engagements. In the utilization of incognito mode, the browser typically refrains from storing browsing history, search history, cookies, or site data, and it abstains from automatically populating forms with saved information.
While employing incognito mode imparts a degree of privacy by refraining from recording browsing history on the local device, it’s crucial to recognize that it does not establish complete online anonymity. Internet service providers (ISPs), visited websites, and network administrators still possess the capability to track online activities.
Incognito mode proves beneficial in scenarios where one aims to safeguard their browsing history and data, especially when utilizing a public computer or endeavoring to avoid saving browsing history on a shared device. Nonetheless, it does not prevent websites from monitoring user activity through analytics or alternative methods.
It’s noteworthy that various web browsers designate this feature by distinct names
- Google Chrome: Incognito mode
- Mozilla Firefox: Private Browsing
- Microsoft Edge: InPrivate browsing
- Safari: Private Browsing
How to Turn Off Incognito Mode
Incognito mode, also known as private browsing or privacy mode, is a feature available in web browsers that allows users to browse the internet without the browser storing browsing history, cookies, or other data. If you want to turn off incognito mode in your web browser, you can follow these general instructions for popular browsers:
- Google Chrome:
- Close all incognito windows.
- Open a new Chrome window.
- Your regular browsing mode will be active.
- Mozilla Firefox:
- Close all private windows.
- Open a new Firefox window.
- Your regular browsing mode will be active.

It’s important to note that turning off incognito mode won’t delete any data that was collected during the incognito session. It simply stops the browser from keeping your browsing activity private. If you want to clear your browsing history or other data, you may need to use the browser’s history-clearing or privacy options.
How to go Incognito on iphone
On the iPhone, if you’re using Safari as your web browser, you can enable Private Browsing mode, which is similar to Incognito mode on other browsers. Here’s how to do it:
- Open Safari: Open the Safari app on your iPhone.
- Open a New Tab: Tap the tab icon in the lower-right corner of the Safari screen. It looks like two overlapping squares.
- Enable Private Browsing: In the tabs view, tap “Private” in the lower-left corner. This will switch to Private Browsing mode.
- Confirm Private Browsing: Safari will show a new tab with a dark background, indicating that you are now in Private Browsing mode.
When in Private Browsing mode, your browsing history, search history, and other data won’t be saved. Any tabs you open in this mode won’t be stored in your browsing history either. Keep in mind that this is specific to Safari on iOS, and the steps might be different if you are using a different browser.
Remember that while Private Browsing helps protect your privacy to some extent, it doesn’t make you completely anonymous online. Websites you visit, your internet service provider, and potentially other entities may still be able to track your online activity.
How to Get out of Incognito Mode on iphone
On the iPhone, if you’re using Safari, the default web browser, you can exit Private Browsing (which is the equivalent of Incognito mode) by following these steps:

- Confirm Exit: Safari will ask if you want to close your existing private tabs. You can choose to either close the tabs or keep them open.
Once you’ve completed these steps, you will be back in regular browsing mode. Keep in mind that this information is accurate as of my last knowledge update in January 2022, and the steps may be subject to change if there have been updates to the Safari browser or the iOS operating system.
